When we bought our new (old) house we knew it needed work. More importantly we knew we needed an office. Although the house isn’t that old, the foundation needed FULL repair. Most people would be scared off by this but considering this is our ninth home purchase in the last 11 years, we thought:
Eh, what the heck, let’s do it!
To catch you up to speed on our home, we bought a 3 bed, 2.5 bathroom house on about 3 acres. The location is PERFECT for our family which is the main reason we moved forward with the house. You can fix a house – you can’t fix the location (speaking from experience lol). We have 3 kids, homeschool, and we both work from home so we MUST have an office.
Lucky for us, the house has a 4 and 1/2 car garage! The previous owners worked on vintage cars leaving a ridiculous amount of unfinished space for us to work with. This is how we are turning our garage into a beautiful home office!
Fast forward 8 weeks of foundation repair, 4 weeks of laying floors over the new foundation, and of course starting school and everyone in the house getting sick and we have begun mapping out the office.
Let’s talk inspo. Here are the vibes we are going for:
Rich wood built ins for the office
Y’all the image below is my DREAM. It’s what started our whole journey to wall to wall built ins. We know we want to color drench walls similar to above, instead with a deep blue. But more importantly, we need these stunning built ins:
So here’s the deal with the office
We have a laundry list of things to do in order to make this dreamy office happen:
- Frame out the room
- Move Electrical
- Move HVAC
- Sheetrock/Mud
- Build out wall trim
- Color Drench
- Lay Floors
- Install Lighting
- Build Cabinetry
- Install Granite
- Find/Install Furnishings
- Celebrate!
We have a lot of work ahead of us. This is room #1 out of everything and we literally get to build it from the concrete up!
Discretionary Warning: In no way am I an interior designer. If you follow along, you will see our mess ups, our poor design choices which require fixing, and a lot me standing, staring, and wondering where we go from here.
Until next time, friends!
